COVID-19 has been devastating for the hospitality industry as social distancing measures have lead to significant business closures to prevent the spread of the virus.

However, there are some businesses still operating – albeit at reduced levels – and the operational restrictions have created an increased need for positions such as delivery drivers to help keep up with demand for delivery orders.

There are also some businesses that are fortunate enough to have enough resources to continue hiring during this time, and these companies are using the opportunity to snap up top talent from competitors who have had to let go of staff.

We’re noticing a key piece of information missing from the job advertisements of employers that are continuing to hire during this crisis which could have a serious impact on the performance of their ads: no mention of the current pandemic.

By leaving out this key piece of information in their job descriptions, employers run the risk of candidates assuming that the job ad is old and simply hasn’t been deactivated yet. “I thought I heard they were closed?” “They can’t be hiring now, how would they interview me?” If this occurs, job seekers will move on and the ad will obviously perform poorly.

To prevent this, we recommend that employers include a short note at the top of their job postings to communicate to candidates that their job is new and their company is still actively hiring. Here are a couple of suggestions:

By providing clear communication with potential candidates through their recruitment marketing, employers can greatly increase the performance of their job ads, especially during this difficult time.
