Xango, a new fixture of Toronto’s King West social scene will focus on Latin Cuisine, twisting both Latin and Asian flavours to create a breakthrough restaurant experience that encompasses both authentic dishes and inspired new favourites. Xango, Led by Chef Claudio Aprile, Toronto raised Celebrity Chef , Restaurateur, and TV personality best known for serving as a main host on CTV’s culinary competition MasterChef Canada reinvents dining with an exciting dining atmosphere which includes a ceviche/raw bar, modern sushi program and will feature an extensive selection of Mezcal alongside specialty crafted cocktails.
We are currently looking for highly motivated individuals as Commis Chefs.
The Commis Chef is responsible for assisting the Chef de Partie in the proper preparation and presentation of all dishes and assuring that all items are prepared as specified by the Sous Chef and Executive Chef. Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Prepare and service all food items according to restaurant standards
Maintain proper rotation of product in all chillers to minimize wastage/spoilage
Ensure storeroom requisitions are accurate
Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features and promotions
Planning menu requirements, organizing preliminary food preparation and ensuring that orders are placed for necessary product supplies
Follow kitchen policies, procedures and service standards
Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
Other duties as assigned
Minimum 1 year kitchen experience, fine dining is an asset
Culinary Apprenticeship completed or in progress
Exceptional organizational skills
Must be able to communicate well
Exceptional knife skills and training in classic and modern techniques
Able to multitask and pay attention to details
Able to prep and set own station daily on time for service following recipes and kitchen standards set by Chef
Ensure food quality and safety at all times
Accountability for own station
Monitor and minimize waste
Demonstrates sense of urgency in completing daily tasks and maintain composure under pressure
Must be able to legally work in Canada
