We are looking for an experienced, hard-working, and ambitious General Manager to join our team in beautiful Whistler, British Columbia. If you are reliable, enthusiastic, and have a good work ethic, then we want to hear from you. Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
As the General Manager, you are responsible for the guest experience from the opening of the business day until your last Group Member leaves after the close of business. You lead the front of house business and service functions: plan, direct, organize, control and evaluate guest service; maintain a professional and safe environment, cultivate exceptional team and individual performance, maintain high-quality standards for service and high standards of cleanliness and appearance; you provide accurate timely reports to the executive management team on key service measures.
Essential Functions and Duties (not limited to)
o Supervise, teach and monitor quality.
o Ensure that service standards are met or exceeded with each guest.
o Ensure consistency, structure, and accountability of Group Members.
o Work closely with Chefs, providing guidance as well as autonomy.
o Provide necessary discipline and conflict resolution for Group Members.
o Oversee and ensure performance management systems are in place for all Group Members.
o Model our service standards and lead by example.
o Attend to any customer concerns or issues promptly.
o Assist Servers and Service Managers with service and maintenance when required.
o Check service and satisfaction with guests during their visit.
o Regularly review product quality and research new vendors.
o Ensure all areas experienced by guests meet or exceed cleanliness and aesthetic standards.
o Monitor music, lighting, and spacing/seating arrangements, making sure we are on brand and always improving the atmosphere for our guests.
o Pay attention to the details (i.e. tables that are not being bussed appropriately, food under tables, empty water glasses, broken glass on the patio, hosts with poor welcoming behaviours etc.)
o Ensure information on special promotions, events and opportunities are communicated to all service Group Members and are displayed in waiting areas; execute any corporate advertising initiatives.
o Be lead on the procedures for and bookings of large parties as per the MJG guidelines (sales, management, follow-through, payment, guest experience).
o Be aware of your target markets and recommend ways to reach a broader audience.
o Support group members through training and instruction as required, lead service team meetings and participate in other meetings.
o Conduct regular staff and management meetings as well as weekly scheduled one-on-one meetings with your group leaders/team individuals (including Chef).
o Continually look for ways to improve guest experience and enhance teamwork.
o Maintain and improve menus; look for changes and additions needed, seek approval for all changes, and ensure timely printing of materials
o Completion of month end report for YBC to provide to Director of Operations and senior management team
o Regular attention to maintenance and repair and the management of both; gathering maintenance quotes for approval
o Consistently work on controlling operational costs and identifying measures to cut costs
o Communicate with suppliers and act as liaison for local authorities (Liquor Inspector, Fire Marshall, RCMP, Health Inspector and WCB)
o Maintain accurate employee records, business files and documents
• Serving It Right and Food Safe Level 1
• Knowledge of food, beer, wine and liquor
• Detailed knowledge of brewing process (preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of management experience in a full-service restaurant
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
• Thorough understanding of all aspects of a POS system
• Ability to work long hours on your feet; days, evenings and weekend shifts; occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
