Job Description

Position: Assistant Wine Director, Araxi

Reports to: Restaurant Director, Araxi

The culinary cornerstone in the heart of Whistler Village, Araxi enjoys a long held international reputation for excellence in food, wine and hospitality. As an early pioneer of farm to table dining, Culinary Director James Walt’s seasonally focused menus celebrate the excellence of locally sourced ingredients.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Wine Director will contribute to the managing of an efficient, effective, and profitable wine program under the leadership and direction of the Wine Director and Restaurant Director, ensuring the highest qualify of product and service. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Wine Director on wine list development and maintenance, inventory, and food and wine pairing. This role will include a mix of both service and management shifts.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned as required)

-Assist with the maintenance of wine list, cellars, other storage areas, and related equipment
-Display a passion for wine and the wine industry; stay up to date on industry and market trends
-Consult effectively and proactively with guests to assist in selection of wines, and follow up appropriately to ensure selected product is available and delivered
-Collaborate on the ongoing evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the operation, including wine selections, pricing, and customer response
-Deliver superior customer service through effective training and education; conduct training and ongoing education with front-of-house staff, including wine seminars
-Lead by example by delivering superior consistent customer service and hospitality
-Ensure compliance with all regulations related to wine/alcohol service
-Develop strong rapport with vendors, agents, and wineries; assist with ordering and inventory

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

-Minimum 3 years of experience managing a premium food and beverage operation
-Minimum level 3 WSET or equivalent or enrollment in WSET Diploma is an asset
-Specific experience in managing a wine program is an asset, particularly in a fine dining atmosphere with a large cellar
-An extensive knowledge of wines and spirits, appropriate glassware, and service -related equipment, industry standards and trends
-Superior communication skills, with the ability to relate professionally to all levels of staff, management, and clientele and to share knowledge with staff and guests
-Professional, premium appearance and manner
-Excellent planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
-Ability to maintain a calm demeanour and react appropriately and effectively to situations as they arise
-Proficient in MS Office
-Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
