Working with RestaurantsCanada.org, the British Columbia Restaurant and Food Association (BCRFA), and SaveHospitality.ca, the #OneTable campaign has been created to lobby the federal government to save the Canadian hospitality industry due to the catastrophic impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the industry.
#OneTable recognizes that the restaurant industry is not simply a group of individual restaurants but a collective of small business owners and hard working Canadians who contribute greatly to the social fabric of Canadian society. And, in order to save countless businesses from disappearing and hundreds of thousands of restaurant workers from poverty, the industry must come together and speak with one voice to get the assistance it needs to survive.
#OneTable asks the Government of Canada for:
1) Immediate Relief including rent abatement, payment holidays from banks, delayed HST payment, and Business Interruption grants
2) Immediate Protection from premise lockouts by landlords and from the CRA
3) Help to reopen and rehire employees with lines of credit and other financial incentives
"If you own a small restaurant, a franchise, if you are a chef, bartender, server, line cook, dishwasher, hostess...if you or anyone else has been impacted by the restaurant closures, we urge you to share your story and make your voice heard. Post your videos online and use the hashtag #OneTable." - #OneTable.ca
The eight week extension of the program will provide much-needed relief to those who lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic.
The BC government has just approved new wholesale pricing to allow restaurants and bars to purchase alcohol at reduced cost.
Resorts, hotels, theatres, and the film industry may reopen while following WorkSaveBC guidelines.
