The Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia (TLABC) is a non-profit society representing the interests and priorities of legal professional, most of whom are litigators. Our 1,300+ membership includes:
- Criminal Lawyers;

We represent individuals rather than corporations or governments and are united with the goals of protecting rights, ensuring access to the courts, preserving the jury system and maintaining the highest of standards in legal education.
While earned revenue covers the costs associated with the day-to-day operations of the Association, it is philanthropic giving by members that funds our public advocacy program (PAC). Through PAC, the Association advances legal positions at all levels of court in BC, (including the Supreme Court of Canada) and engages in public engagement campaigns on issues of importance to individual rights of British Columbians.
Working with the CEO and select members of our Board of Governors, the Manager of Philanthropy is a fundraising generalist who can take over leadership of our annual campaign that is made up of monthly, one-time and major gift donors; and who can ideally help us grow our donor pool within our membership.
Responsibilities
- Developing an annual development plan to meet a proposed annual budget of over $250,000.
- Administering, monitoring, facilitating and reporting on the annual development plan, including the development and fulfilment of special projects and initiatives to support and facilitate the ongoing fundraising strategy.
- Create and manage projected budgets in collaboration with the CEO to ensure revenue and expenditure is on track, making adjustments as necessary.
- Administering, monitoring, facilitating and reporting on the annual Development Plan.
- Engagement with the Litigation Oversight Committee and CEO to assist in the development of campaign strategy and to provide status updates when appropriate.
- Engagement with all representative practice areas to ensure the ongoing expansion and relevancy of fundraising initiatives.
- Recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers for fundraising activities and events.
- Fulfilment of contributions and pledges.
- Ensuring accurate collection of data regarding contributors, prospects and contribution history within the database, including relevant demographics and metrics.
- Coordinating the data-entry process in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant.
- Dissemination of information regarding advocacy campaigns and projects.
- Writing, editing and designing all fundraising collateral, in collaboration with the CEO.
- Communicate campaign updates to the PAC listserv on a regular basis.
- Coordinating all tactical fundraising initiatives.
- Ensure timely acknowledgement, recognition, and reporting to contributors, volunteers and members, as appropriate.
- Maintain contributor acknowledgement across all relevant channels, including seminar signage, online and in the Verdict.
- Recruit members to speak in support of PAC at TLABC events.
- Ensure BOG/Exec are current with their PAC contributions.
- Attend and act as an Ambassador at TLABC events.
- Creating connections with the community, legal community.
- Collaboration with other TLABC departments.
- Work closely with the CEO to maintain consistency in association messaging and developing integrated strategy.
- Engaging target audiences to create online conversations and communities
Requirements
- Demonstrated fundraising skill and experience with diverse donor audiences and methodologies.
- Demonstrated financial management skills.
- Superior presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Deep experience with MS Office suite, Adobe and donor CRM software.
- Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Relevant post secondary education.
- Ability to (periodically) work outside of regular business hours (9am to 5pm).
- AFP membership or CFRE designation preferred.

Benefits
Salary range: $75,000 to $80,000 for full-time. TLABC is also open to a reduced work week of three or four days per week. Salary would be adjusted accordingly. Benefits include three weeks of vacation (we also close our offices between Christmas and New Year’s) and an extended health and dental plan.
Work format: Hybrid.
