Job Description

The Lodge Kitchen & Bar | Brentwood Bay Resort
$24.00–$27.00 per hour | Full-Time

What we do (and Are Proud Of)
At Brentwood Bay Resort, we believe unforgettable guest experiences start with exceptional people.
Perched on the waterfront overlooking Brentwood Bay, our resort combines award-winning hospitality, elevated dining, wellness experiences, and one of the most beautiful workplace settings on Vancouver Island. While guests come for the views, they return because of the people who create memorable experiences every day.
We're proud to have been recognized multiple times as an Outstanding Workplace of the Year. That recognition comes from building a culture where people are trusted, supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow.
We believe great kitchens are built on respect, teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning. We work hard, support one another, and take pride in creating an environment where people can build meaningful careers in hospitality.
If you're passionate about great food, strong teams, and hospitality done well, you'll fit right in.

Why this role matters
The Lodge Kitchen & Bar is not your typical pub.
Serving up to 200–300 guests during peak periods, our kitchen combines the standards of luxury resort dining with the energy and camaraderie of a bustling pub. Guests frequently line up before opening, drawn by our vibrant atmosphere, exceptional food, and iconic waterfront patio.
As Sous Chef, you'll work alongside the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef to help lead a culinary team of approximately 20 employees. You'll supervise and mentor cooks during service, contribute to menu development, support cost and inventory management, and help create an environment where people can do their best work.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, and is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.

What you’ll do
  •
No two days are exactly alike, but you can expect to:
Lead the line during busy services, ensuring pace, quality, and consistency
  • Coach, mentor, and develop cooks and apprentices
  • Contribute ideas for features, seasonal menus, and culinary improvements
  • Support inventory management, ordering, and food cost control
  • Work closely with Front of House leaders to create exceptional guest experiences
  • Assist with special events, private dining experiences, and resort activations
  • Maintain food safety, sanitation, and quality standards
  • Help build a positive, accountable, and high-performing kitchen culture
  • Step confidently into leadership responsibilities when the Chef de Cuisine is away

What you'll bring
  •
Minimum 3 years of culinary experience in a high-volume professional kitchen
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience coaching and developing team members
  • The ability to remain calm, focused, and positive during busy service periods
  • An understanding of food cost control, waste reduction, and kitchen efficiency
  • Red Seal certification or equivalent culinary training is considered an asset
  • Reliable transportation to Brentwood Bay, as public transit options are limited during evening and closing shifts
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

What's in it for you
Compensation
$24.00 – $27.00 per hour
  •
Starting rate will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Benefits & Perks
  •
Extended health and dental benefits after three months of employment
  • Opportunities to grow and develop your skills
  • Perks you’ll actually use:
  • Complimentary stays and discounts for friends & family
  • Complimentary staff meal during every shift

Career Growth
This is more than a kitchen position.
It's an opportunity to develop your leadership skills, work alongside experienced culinary leaders, and grow your career within one of Vancouver Island's most recognized hospitality organizations.
If you're ready to lead, learn, and help create exceptional guest experiences, we'd love to hear from you.
Brentwood Bay Resort is committed to creating an inclusive workplace. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. Even if you don't meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply if you believe you'd be a great fit for our team.

Requirements
