Future Assistant Manager / Fishmonger (Training Provided)Job Description
Have you built your career in restaurants, kitchens, food service, or another hands-on industry and are looking for a change?
Fisherman's Market is looking for an ambitious individual to join our Burnaby team as an Assistant Manager in Training. This isn't simply a retail position—it's an opportunity to learn a unique trade, develop leadership skills, and build a long-term career with one of British Columbia's most respected independent seafood companies.
No seafood experience? No problem. Many of our best fishmongers and leaders came from restaurant kitchens. If you're comfortable handling food, enjoy working with your hands, and take pride in producing quality work, we'll teach you everything you need to know.
As an Assistant Manager in Training, you'll learn every aspect of operating a successful seafood market. You'll develop the skills to professionally cut and prepare seafood, build eye-catching retail displays, pack retail and wholesale orders, merchandise fresh product, prepare grab-and-go items such as poke bowls, and provide exceptional customer service. While this role has a strong food preparation component, customer interaction is equally important. We believe every customer deserves the same level of service they'd expect in a great restaurant, so we're looking for someone who enjoys helping people just as much as working with great food.
Our markets are fast-paced, team-oriented environments where no two days are the same. As you learn the business, you'll gradually take on more responsibility, working alongside experienced managers while learning the systems that have helped Fisherman's Market grow across British Columbia.
We're looking for someone with the ambition to grow into a leadership role as we continue expanding throughout the Lower Mainland. Our goal isn't simply to hire another employee—we're looking to invest in someone who wants to learn our systems, help lead a successful market, and become an important part of our future growth.
This is a full-time position working 4–5 days per week with consistent daytime scheduling, offering something that's becoming increasingly rare in the food industry—a predictable schedule, excellent work-life balance, and the opportunity to build a long-term career.
If you're hardworking, dependable, enjoy working with food, and are excited by the opportunity to help build something bigger than yourself, we'd love to meet you.
