Position: Construction Manager

Reporting to: Director of Construction

Location: Alberta and Ontario

Position Summary:

The Construction Manager oversees the self-performing aspects of utility-scale solar projects. Responsible for operations management, this role ensures efficiency and accuracy in project execution, aligning with client expectations and company quality programs.


Position Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to travel with a valid passport (Canada and USA)


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the project craft plan for all assigned solar projects and participates in the project kick off when available.
  • Analyzes and summarizes departmental activities to evaluate efficiency and accuracy.
  • Reviews schedule management - Initial planning for a project and review during the project.
  • Reviews project craft requirements and work plans within their disciplines.
  • Performs budget management, assists in estimate reviews, budget preparation and monthly status reviews.
  • Maintains a full understanding of all contractual obligations for the project and documentation of variances.
  • Provides excellence and consistency in the management and delivery of the project, in-line with the client’s expectations.
  • Sets expectations with Superintendents to align with client and company quality program(s).
  • Performs audit functions to ensure compliance.
  • Supports Superintendents to ensure proper page turns, drawing reviews, and Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) template reviews are completed prior to work commencing.
  • Sets expectations with Superintendents to align with client and company quality program(s).
  • Provides support to Superintendents to better understand and adhere to environmental requirements.
  • Strengthens and continually maintains client relationships.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled, or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Issues resolution and support for internal/external areas.
  • Ensures Superintendents emphasize Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occur before scopes of work commence.

  • Demonstrates a safety and quality-oriented attitude, leading by example.
  • Reinforces safe behaviors and corrects “at risk” behaviors as necessary.
  • Ensures all site team members understand and adhere to standard operating procedures.

Leadership and Employee Development:

  • Fosters an inclusive workplace focused on creating opportunities and exceeding expectations.
  • Manages direct reports, participating in hiring and selection processes.
  • Communicates regularly with direct reports on goals, accomplishments, and policies.
  • Provides challenging tasks and assignments to develop employees' skills and responsibilities.

  • Conducts timely and effective performance reviews in accordance with company guidelines.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural/electrical engineering or similar field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant construction experience in renewables.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Familiarity with provincial and federal safety legislation and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong understanding of Total Quality Management.
  • Proficiency in budget analysis and controls.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC processes and vendor/materials management.
