Job Description & Summary

A career in our Sustainability practice, within Risk Assurance Compliance and Analytics services, will provide you with the opportunity to assist clients in developing analytics and technology solutions that help them detect, monitor, and predict risk. Using advanced technology, we’re able to focus on establishing the right controls, processes and structures for our clients to ensure that decisions are based on accurate information and assure that information provided to third parties is accurate, complete, and can be trusted.

Our team helps organisations plan, source, deliver, finance and measure the wider impact of products and services. We’re helping to future proof businesses by making them more resilient and sustainable. You’ll focus on identifying and prioritising sustainability issues, setting goals that support alignment and integration of the sustainability vision into overall corporate strategy, and implementing processes, controls, systems, and dashboards to measure progress for consistent and accurate reporting.

PwC Canada is building the country’s leading climate change team within our sustainability / ESG platform.  We focus on supporting our priority clients to address Canada’s most significant climate change questions, challenges and opportunities.

As a Senior Manager, you will play a critical role in the leadership of our climate change team and in the PwC-wide ESG platform. Ideally the Senior Manager will work on both decarbonisation and climate risk projects, but it is also acceptable for the Senior Manager to focus fully or primarily on either of those.  While the focus of your work will be on climate change projects, you will also have an opportunity to support broader work in low carbon and sustainable finance, as well as broader ESG strategy, reporting and data.

Meaningful work you’ll be part of

As a Climate Transition and Resilience Senior Manager, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping  to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Apply analytical skills and specialist knowledge of climate change to some of the most exciting and leading  decarbonisation, transition, and resilience projects in Canada

  • Have an opportunity to lead on Canada’s most complex and impactful climate change projects

  • Gain experience across a range sectors including financial services, telecommunications, energy, mining, industry, public sector, infrastructure, etc, and over time develop a focus in one or more of these

  • Contribute effectively to complex, multi-disciplinary projects – often supporting several projects at a time

  • Continue to develop your technical understanding of climate change and how it applies to business, investment, and government decision making; and support internal and external thought leadership on specialist issues within climate change

  • Develop as a subject matter expert on one or more of decarbonisation, transition, resilience, or other topics within climate change

  • Manage and coach junior resources

  • Support technical projects in areas such as climate scenario analysis projects

  • Support clients and PwC colleagues to build their capacity in climate change

  • Manage client consulting engagements over their life-cycle

  • Contribute to proposals and other business development activities

Experiences and skills you’ll use to solve

  • Professional experience in climate change consulting is required

  • A background in one or more of climate science, climate finance, engineering, financial analysis, economics, natural resources, or nature/biodiversity

  • Demonstrated experience in the key climate change and climate-related reporting frameworks

  • Commercial acumen and strong programme and project management skills

  • Critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and problem solving abilities

  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams

  • Exceptional commitment to providing excellent client service, by building and maintaining productive relationships with both internal and external clients

  • Strong personal initiative, agility and resourcefulness

  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills

  • The ideal candidate will be Montreal based but we will consider candidates in Toronto, Ottawa, or in other locations with the ability to travel to Montreal, Toronto, or Ottawa

  • When applying to a Quebec based opportunity, fluency in French is required in addition to English. Outside of Quebec, fluency in French is a strong asset

  • A demonstrated commitment to valuing differences, developing and coaching diverse teams, and ensuring diverse perspectives are heard
