About Knead Bakeshop
Knead Bakeshop is a growing, community-focused artisan bakeshop dedicated to crafting high-quality, thoughtfully made products. We take pride in organic ingredients, traditional techniques, and creating a welcoming customer experience. As we grow, we are looking for a passionate baker to help elevate our bread program and support our expanding bakery offering.
Role Summary
The Baker will play a key role in producing best-in-class organic breads, with a strong focus on sourdough and naturally leavened products. This role requires both technical excellence and creativity — someone who can execute consistently while also innovating new products for retail, markets, and our sandwich program.
This position reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with the broader Knead team to ensure product quality, operational efficiency, and an exceptional customer experience in our open bakery environment.
Key Responsibilities
Bread Production
Produce high-quality organic breads with a focus on sourdough and naturally leavened products
Maintain and manage sourdough starters to ensure optimal performance and consistency
Execute daily and weekly bake schedules to meet retail and wholesale needs
Ensure consistency in product quality, appearance, and taste
Product Development & Creativity
Develop new and seasonal bread offerings for the bakery, markets, and sandwich program
Continuously refine and improve core sourdough favourites
Collaborate on monthly features and special items
Stay current on artisan baking trends and techniques
Additional Baking Support
Support production of pastries, bars, and dessert items as needed
Assist with prep and scaling for broader bakery needs
Ensure proper labeling, storage, and rotation of baked goods
Operations & Kitchen Support
Assist with ordering and inventory management of baking ingredients and supplies
Maintain food safety, sanitation, and quality standards at all times
Support light cleaning and overall organization of the bakery space
Contribute to smooth daily production flow
Customer Experience (Open Bakery Model)
Maintain a professional, positive presence in the open bakery environment
Engage with customers when appropriate
Take pride in product presentation and the overall guest experience
Qualifications & Experience
Proven experience in an artisan bakeshop environment
Strong hands-on experience with organic bread production and sourdough fermentation
Deep understanding of sourdough starter management
Creative mindset with the ability to develop new products
Strong attention to detail and consistency
Ability to work early mornings and manage physically demanding work
Food Safe certification (or willingness to obtain)
Nice to Have
Experience supporting bakery operations (ordering, inventory, production planning)
Experience in small, growing bakery environments
Passion for local, organic, and high-quality ingredients
