Job Description

We are hiring a passionate, hospitality-focused Line Cook to join our kitchen team! We are on the lookout for dedicated and energetic individuals to execute our menu with precision and pride. As a key member of the line, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional dishes, maintaining high standards of organization, and working seamlessly with the team during service. The ideal candidate has a hunger to learn, a strong work ethic, and a desire to grow their culinary skills in a chef-led environment.

About Us:
Nemesis is a hospitality-driven, specialty coffee company composed of highly dedicated chefs, baristas, and creatives. We utilize our pursuit of passion and the spaces we explore them in as a catalyst to build community and create culture.

We have cultivated a working environment that encourages and empowers all team members to constantly challenge their own status quo—to broaden existing skills, deepen knowledge, and contribute in new and exciting ways as we strive forward. As a team, we want to nurture this environment by bringing in people who share our passions and have a genuine desire to push the boundaries in all aspects of the business alongside us.

Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain mise en place (MEP) so that stations are always ready for service and can sustain pace during peak periods.
- Prepare ingredients according to standardized recipes and prep lists, including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and preparing sauces, dressings, and garnishes.
- Own your task list: ensure everything assigned to you is completed to standard and on time.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety guidelines, including proper food handling, labeling, storage, and rotation (FIFO), ensuring an inspection-ready workspace.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area at all times, including regular wiping and sanitizing of prep surfaces, tools, and equipment.
- Support consistent execution of the menu by following standardized recipes and instructions from the Sous and Jr Sous Chef

Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of previous experience in a professional kitchen is mandatory.
- Basic understanding of pastry preparation techniques (including proofing, baking, and garnishing) and core adherence to standardized recipes.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper food handling, storage, and the use of cleaning and sanitation chemicals.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently during busy periods while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Strong attention to detail in ingredient preparation and following recipes to ensure consistency, coupled with the ability to collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff and follow direction.

If you share our passion for creating exceptional experiences, we’d love to hear from you!

Requirements:

  • Food Safe Level 1
  • Work Permit

About Nemesis Coffee | Dope Bakehouse

Nemesis is a hospitality driven, specialty coffee company composed of highly dedicated baristas, chefs, and creatives. We utilise our pursuits of passion, and the spaces we explore them in as our catalyst to build community and create culture.

Created from humble beginnings, Nemesis set out with a simple yet daring vision: to re-imagine and redefine the meaning of coffee culture in Vancouver and beyond by harmoniously intertwining hospitality, specialty coffee, culinary excellence, design and the arts.

The word “Nemesis” perfectly captures our essence, our against the grain mentality, our need to express individuality, and our constant hunger to push the boundaries of coffee culture.

We wanted to take the power out of the word and give it new meaning; to remove any negative connotations and turn it into something that is authentically us. The inverted heart was a creation derived from love, the deep appreciation for our community, and our want to define our purpose within them. A symbol we can make with our hands, a gesture that can be expressed universally to embody these sentiments.
