Join our team at This is Blueprint’s newest Keep Good Company Bars location in Steveston!

We are now hiring for all positions for our anticipated early June opening in the heart of the Steveston waterfront.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As Kitchen Manager / Sous Chef, you are building your career in BOH leadership. Under the guidance of the Chef or their designate, you hold responsibility for the overall quality that your kitchen produces, and support the development of the team through continuous feedback and coaching. Through building trusting relationships with your back of house team, and working closely with unit management, you support overall business success and maintain a magnetic and supportive culture. The Sous role is suited to applicants with significant previous kitchen experience, including line leadership. This is a position with a variable shift schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends, and is offered as a part- to full-time role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Jointly responsible for recruiting, training, monitoring, and providing feedback for all back of house staff, in partnership with the Chef or their designate
Supports effective staff management through quality communication, mentoring and training to undertake duties and comply with all policies and procedures in place; creates positive, supportive working environment through a coaching model comprised of setting the best examples around consistency, high service standards, mutual respect and team working
Supports development of kitchen teams in all aspects of their roles, including leadership responsibilities (hiring, providing feedback, continuous improvement and performance management); provides input to all formal performance management processes for back of house
Coaches team members, providing opportunities for growth appropriate to scope of experience and capability
Ensures the highest standard of quality that reflects our brand and our guests’ expectations;
Supports successful fiscal management of kitchen, including but not limited to meeting all budgeted revenue and expense targets, continuous and prudent management of controllable costs; proactive communication regarding missed targets, ideally in advance for open, transparent discussion
Communicates with unit management on an ongoing and regular basis (at least weekly) about controllable costs and efficiencies to meet or exceed targets
Ensures consistency through adherence to plating manuals and training materials
Ensures equipment maintenance logs are accurate and updated for location
Maintains Vancouver Coastal Health requirements and FoodSafe certifications
Maintains transparent, open and collaborative partnerships with unit and group leadership;
Designates an alternate to assume responsibilities in absentia
From time to time, may be required to assume responsibility for special projects and initiatives as directed by This is Blueprint management.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

At least two years in a Line Cook or equivalent level in a fast-paced restaurant / pub / lounge environment
An interest in career progression to a leadership role
Knowledge of appropriate statutory regulations and guiding principles including but not limited to health regulations, Occupational Health & Safety, Employment Standards
Prior exposure to budgeting food and labour costs
Experience with BOH administration including scheduling, ordering, inventory and invoicing
Possesses a positive, coaching / mentoring approach to managing a busy kitchen team
Proven ability to communicate effectively and manage in a professional, consistent manner
Passion for quality, service and working collaboratively to provide a first-class guest experience
FoodSafe certification
