Job Description

Café ZUZU aims to strengthen the already existing hustle and bustle in the neighbourhood. From “cappuccino & cornetto”, to enjoying a working (or not-so-working) lunch, to sipping your crisp glass of wine as the sun sets and your dinner is on the grill.
ZUZU is transporting & nostalgic to 1950’s Italy while acknowledging the significance and optimism of the future. Nestled in the heart of Regent Park & inspired by our community, ZUZU merges Janet Zuccarini’s passion for uniquely soulful hospitality with that of giving back to the neighborhoods that we operate in.

The Role
• Curate a transporting guest experience
o Follow and enforce systems to ensure consistency in product and service
o Build rapport and establish repeat guests from inside and outside the direct community o Perform guest quality checks and recoveries when necessary
• Create a supportive, safe and growth-oriented work environment
o Foster an environment of "happy people making people happy"
o Conduct pre-shift meetings with immediate reporting team members
o Create succession planning within the café business
o Audit team member performances and give in the moment feedback
o Work safely in accordance with Health & Safety Act
o Hold regular training meetings to consistently develop knowledge and skills of team
• Manage daily café operations
o Perform functional senior barista duties
o Manage café preventative maintenance & repair and maintenance work
o Ensure café team is scheduled to maintain optimal profit margins
o Conduct Inventory counts and reporting into GM & order products as needed to par o Inspect and sign for incoming orders; checking quality of products or errors
o Open/Close cafe in accordance with daily checklists
o Follow and enforce company policies and procedures
o Cash handling & reconciliation – balance tills, provide due-backs
o Management of our coffee membership program and flex workspace
o Maintain accurate and clean handoff of the business into lunch/dinner services
• Continually develop management skills
o Ongoing development of product knowledge
o Use strategic thinking when collaborating with GM on new systems and processes o Keeping up to date with industry trends & competitive analysis
• Support Local Gusto Gives Back Initiatives
o Hold a leadership seat within the GGB committee.
o Support senior leadership on ideation and connecting ZUZU to specific initiatives o Coordinate and manage on-site events
o Work with community leaders on engagement and growth on ongoing initiatives

Who You Are
The right person for this role has a strong hospitality leadership background and prioritizes both guest and team member experience. The ideal candidate is equal parts people and process-driven with an aptitude for creating efficiencies at all levels of the business.
Preference will be given to those who:
• Previous high volume, quality driven coffee/espresso experience
• Proficient in café or QSR style of service and operations
• High level of coffee and tea knowledge
• Excellent communication skills at all levels of an organization
• Strategic, entrepreneurial and innovative thinker
• Valid First Aid, Smart Serve, WHMIS Certification
• Passionate, positive, and approachable
