Job Description

About Emeri Matcha Bar

Emeri is a Vancouver-based matcha brand built on a simple belief: we don’t define the best matcha, we help you find yours. We work directly with multi-generational farmers across Japan to source distinct expressions of matcha, each with its own character, balance, and story.

Our mission is to help people find a matcha that suits their palate while raising the bar for quality and experience across North America.

At our core, we are a hospitality-driven brand. We are building spaces that feel welcoming, energetic, and engaging. Spaces where people can come together, connect, and feel genuinely taken care of.

We believe great hospitality is not just about service, but about how people feel. From the moment a guest walks in to the moment they leave, every interaction matters.

The Opportunity

We are hiring an Assistant Manager to help define our emeri matcha bar experience.

This is a foundational role for someone who wants to go beyond managing shifts and instead help build a world-class hospitality experience from the ground up with a clear path to be promoted to a Manager position.

You will work closely with the founders to set the tone, build the team, and establish the standard for how Emeri operates.

This role includes both floor leadership and operational ownership, with responsibility for ensuring the business runs smoothly beyond day-to-day service. It is best suited for someone pursuing a long-term career in hospitality leadership and motivated to take ownership of both the guest experience and overall operations

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Operations & Management

  • Own scheduling and labor planning to support service needs

  • Manage inventory levels, ordering, and supplier coordination

  • Maintain and oversee cleaning and maintenance schedules

  • Ensure all equipment is functioning and proactively address issues

  • Support onboarding, training systems, and team performance tracking

  • Assist with hiring and building the team

  • Monitor store performance and identify opportunities for improvement

Owning the guest experience

  • Set and maintain a consistently high standard for service

  • Read the room, anticipate needs, and elevate each guest interaction

  • Ensure every detail, from drink quality to pacing, reflects our standards

Leading through service

  • Take full ownership of the floor during your shifts

  • Lead with calm, clarity, and presence under pressure

  • Hold the team accountable while maintaining a supportive environment

Building the team

  • Train and develop baristas to deliver at a high level

  • Reinforce a culture of accountability, care, and continuous improvement

  • Support hiring and help identify top talent early

Driving operational excellence

  • Maintain strong execution across scheduling, inventory, and daily operations

  • Identify inefficiencies and take initiative to improve systems

  • Treat the business as if it were your own

Who This Is For

  • 2–5+ years of experience in hospitality, cafés, or service-driven environments

  • Proven leadership experience (shift lead, supervisor, or assistant manager)

  • You hold yourself to a high standard and naturally raise the bar for others

  • You are detail-oriented and notice what most people overlook

  • You are calm, composed, and decisive in fast-paced environments

  • You take ownership without being asked and follow through consistently

  • You care deeply about hospitality, not just service

Experience in specialty coffee, tea, or premium hospitality is a strong plus.

Requirements

  • FoodSafe Level 1 (preferred) or willingness to obtain shortly after hiring

  • Availability for weekends and flexible scheduling

  • Ability to work on your feet and perform in a fast-paced environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $23.50/hour + tips & bonus

  • Performance-based bonus tied to individual & store performance

  • Complimentary staff food & drinks during shift

  • Product discounts

  • Team events, outings, and gatherings

  • Clear path to General Store Manager and future leadership roles

Why This Role Matters

We are not looking for someone to simply “run shifts.”

We are looking for someone who wants to help build something exceptional and take pride in the standard they set.

The way you lead, the culture you help shape, and the experience you create will define Emeri in its earliest and most important stage.

If you are someone who takes ownership, cares deeply about your craft, and wants to grow into a leader in hospitality, we would love to meet you!
