Fanny Bay Oyster Bar & Shellfish Market is one of Vancouver’s most recognized seafood destinations and a Michelin Recommended restaurant known for exceptional hospitality, premium seafood, and authentic West Coast dining experience. In addition to its acclaimed restaurant and oyster bar, the business also includes a retail seafood market and growing catering operation.

We are seeking an experienced and highly strategic General Manager to lead the overall business and elevate operational excellence, guest experience, team culture, and financial performance. We are looking for a hospitality leader who can operate at both a strategic and operational level while helping shape the continued evolution of a highly respected culinary brand.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished hospitality professional with strong commercial acumen, proven leadership capability, and the ability to lead a sophisticated, multi-faceted hospitality operation while preserving the authenticity and culture that make Fanny Bay Oysters unique.

Position Overview

The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of the Fanny Bay Oysters operation, including restaurant service, back of the house operations, oyster bar operations, retail market operations, catering services, financial performance, people leadership, and guest experience execution.

As the senior operational leader on site, the General Manager will oversee all aspects of the business while partnering closely with ownership and senior leadership to drive operational consistency, profitability, brand reputation, and long-term growth.

This position requires a highly visible leader who can inspire teams, lead with professionalism, and create exceptional guest and employee experience in a high-performance hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Operational Leadership

· Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for the restaurant, oyster bar, retail market, and catering divisions.

· Drive operational excellence, consistency, and accountability across all departments.

· Analyze operational performance, labor metrics, sales trends, and financial results to support strategic decision-making.

· Develop and manage labor plans, operational budgets, forecasting, and cost controls.

· Ensure efficient coordination between Front of House, Back of House, Retail, and Catering teams.

· Lead operational planning initiatives that improve scalability, service standards, profitability, and guest satisfaction.

· Ensure all operational systems, procedures, and standards are executed consistently at a high level.

Hospitality & Guest Experience

· Champion an elevated hospitality culture reflective of the Fanny Bay Oysters brand and Michelin Recommended standards.

· Maintain a strong and visible leadership presence during service periods.

· Lead by example in professionalism, hospitality excellence, and guest engagement.

· Oversee guest recovery and service resolution with confidence, urgency, and care.

· Continuously evaluate and improve the guest experience across all service channels.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with guests, community partners, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.

Financial & Commercial Accountability

· Maintain ownership of overall business performance and operational profitability.

· Monitor and manage labor costs, inventory performance, purchasing, and cost of goods.

· Develop accurate sales forecasts and operational projections.

· Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, increase revenue, and strengthen financial performance.

· Partner with Finance and Executive Leadership on reporting, budgeting, and business planning activities.

Leadership & Team Development

· Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop department leaders and frontline teams.

· Foster a culture rooted in accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and respect.

· Lead onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.

· Build strong communication practices and operational alignment across departments.

· Partner closely with Human Resources regarding employee relations, workplace culture, investigations, and policy compliance.

· Create a high-performing environment that prioritizes engagement, retention, and continuous development.

Compliance & Operational Standards

· Ensure full compliance with food safety, liquor, employment, and workplace safety regulations.

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness, maintenance, organization, and operational readiness.

· Oversee preventative maintenance planning and vendor relationships.

· Ensure accurate inventory controls, reporting, payroll oversight, and administrative execution.

Qualifications & Experience

· 5+ years of progressive hospitality leadership experience, including senior operational leadership responsibilities.

· Proven success leading premium dining, hospitality, or high-volume restaurant operations.

· Strong financial and operational acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, labor strategies, and profitability.

· Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams in fast-paced, guest-focused environments.

· Experience overseeing multi-revenue hospitality operations, including catering or retail, is considered a strong asset.

· Strong understanding of hospitality operations, service standards, food safety, inventory controls, and labor management.

· Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

· Valid Serving It Right certification required.

· Seafood, oyster bar, or premium culinary experience considered an asset.
