Job Description

Wentworth Hospitality Group (Amacon’s hospitality division) is looking for an engaging leader for the General Manager position at Maxine’s Café & Bar! If you have an ‘Anything is Possible’ mindset and an entrepreneurial outlook in pursuit of sales, this could be your next career move.

The General Manager will create a culture of collaboration and personal development as they oversee daily operations to deliver a high-quality dining experience. Responsibilities include maintaining the restaurant’s revenue, profitability, and quality goals to ensure efficient restaurant operation, as well as maintain high production, productivity, quality, and excellent guest-service standards.

Management skills and experience in both front and back of the house are required to oversee the dining room, check-in with guests, manage the team, and ensure company policies and industry standards are followed. In addition to maintaining our vision by adhering to our values and management principles, this position must provide the highest level of service to our guests. Reports to the VP, Restaurant Operations and works closely with the Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine.

Position Responsibilities
Sales
• Execution of outstanding food & guest service
• Audit/Executes the pre-shifts
• Encourage participation in community events
• Innovate new ways to capture sales
• Motivate & inspire leadership around sales
• Understands needs of current market
• Demonstrate tenacity in pursuit of sales and entrepreneurial ownership for sales
• Demonstrate an ‘Anything is Possible’ mindset: dream big and play big
• Emulate behaviour that drives sales by being on the floor, chatting with guests and help where necessary; no job is too small
• Other duties as assigned


People
• Accomplish human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining and/or terminating employee; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, evaluating, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures

Place
• Create a professional atmosphere that sustains top employee and guest safety standards
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy facility environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures, complying with health and legal regulations
• Responsible for relationships with suppliers & contracted suppliers
• Ensure all storage is organized, clean & labeled and all equipment is properly stocked and 100% in perfect working condition
• Ensure a safe workplace in compliance with WorkSafe BC


Profit
• Draft, complete and approve budgets for the fiscal year
• Analyze the restaurant budget with the Executive Chef to find and price inventory, reduce expenses, review current pricing, and adjust purchasing strategies if needed
• Ensure sales forecasting is accurate and complete
• Influence and find compelling ways for our businesses to save money and improve systems
• Teach, influence, and follow up on profit systems. Ensure all profit systems and reporting is in place in every area of the business as per the following:
o Cost of Goods: Food/Liquor/Wine/Beer
o Labour Reporting: Costed weekly schedules for the Front of House & Kitchen
o Controllable Spending: Ensure we are hitting budget and finding cost savings without affecting the guest experience or the employee experience
o Marketing Budgets: Influenced and utilized
o Profit Goals: Achieved for each period and for the year

Skills & Qualifications
• Education: A post-secondary degree ideally in business management or hospitality.
• Experience: 5-7 years prior experience in the restaurant industry with proven management and coaching skills.
• Ability to work varied hours
• Knowledge about driving sales and meeting financial goals
• Results driven individual with demonstrated record of prior success
• Able to successfully coach and manage people
• Driven toward personal development
• Excellent interpersonal skills with guests and employees
