Job Description

Published on Main is currently seeking a passionate and driven individual to join our front of house team as Lead Sommelier.

POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Lead Sommelier, you play a key role in shaping and executing the wine program. You ensure the wine list and daily operations reflect the restaurant’s brand, support and educate the service team, and deliver exceptional guest experiences. Your leadership and engagement help maintain the integrity of the program and strengthen its reputation within the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

WINE PROGRAM
- Work with the Wine Director to maintain the wine list and service standards in line with the restaurant’s brand.
- Help select wines that fit the program’s style and guidelines.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
- Keep inventory organized, properly stored, and well-rotated.
- Handle ordering and build strong relationships with vendors.
- Support waste reduction and sustainability efforts within the wine program.

TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Partner with Management to lead staff wine training and tastings.

GUEST EXPERIENCE
- Guide the service team in delivering warm, personalized wine service, including pairing suggestions and wine storytelling.
- Create meaningful guest interactions that enhance the dining experience.

CULTURE & ENGAGEMENT
- Work closely with the FOH team to support smooth operations and a unified approach to service.
- Foster a positive, inclusive work environment by encouraging open communication and acting as a point of contact for team concerns.

HEALTH, SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
- Ensure all wine-related operations follow licensing laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in storage, handling, and service.

MARKETING INITIATIVES
- Support Management in creating wine-related content and promotions, helping build the restaurant’s presence in the wine community.
- Work with Management and the Wine Director to explore and support special events that highlight the wine program.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience and a desire to continue to grow and learn in an ever changing environment.
Serving it Right Certification.
WSET Award level 3.
Must be available evenings and weekends.
