OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

SOMMELIER – A RARE OPPORTUNITY AT THE VANCOUVER CLUB!

This is not a conventional sommelier role. It is an opportunity to shape, influence, and elevate one of the city’s most distinguished private club wine programs.

The Vancouver Club is seeking a highly experienced, self-directed Sommelier with deep expertise, refined instinct, and the confidence to operate as both curator and connector. This role is designed for a professional who thrives with autonomy, anticipates opportunities before they are asked for, and builds lasting relationships through credibility, presence, and precision.

You will serve as the authority and steward of the Club’s wine program, guiding its evolution, elevating the member experience, and ensuring every touchpoint reflects excellence.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a representative of The Vancouver Club, you embody professionalism, discretion, and polish at all times.The Sommelier holds full ownership of the wine program across all Club outlets. This is a hands-on, floor-driven role that works in close partnership with the à la carte team, delivering exceptional wine service while actively shaping the Club’s offerings. This role reports to the Director of Restaurant & Bars. Schedule is Monday to Friday with occasional weekend shifts. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a visible and engaged Sommelier across all dining outlets, elevating the guest experience through confident, tableside wine service and sales.
  • Own and continuously evolve the Club’s wine program, including curated lists and by-the-glass offerings that reflect depth, rarity, and relevance.
  • Act as a strategic partner across departments, ensuring the wine program integrates seamlessly into the broader Club experience.
  • Recommend distinctive, high-quality wines that align with the Club’s brand while introducing members to new and compelling discoveries.
  • Build meaningful, lasting relationships with members and guests, using the wine program as a vehicle for engagement, loyalty, and growth.
  • Collaborate on the development and execution of beverage menus across all outlets and events.
  • Lead ongoing staff education, tastings, and training initiatives to elevate overall wine knowledge and service standards.
  • Partner with culinary teams to design thoughtful and compelling wine pairings.
  • Execute all styles of service with confidence, precision, and consistency.
  • Contribute to a positive, professional, and high-performance team environment
    Perform additional responsibilities as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • A seasoned Sommelier with deep wine knowledge and a strong point of view.
  • Highly self-motivated and autonomous, with the ability to lead without constant direction.
  • A natural relationship builder with polished, confident communication skills.
  • Commercially astute, with a strong instinct for driving sales and member engagement.
  • Equally comfortable curating behind the scenes and performing on the floor.
  • Committed to excellence, detail, and continuous evolution
  • WSET Level 3, CMS Certification or ISG Diploma.
  • Must have Serving It Right certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift/carry 25 kg, and stay on feet for extended periods of time.

Annual salary range $70,000+
