Job Description:
The Cook works under the direct supervision of the Director of the Academy. They are responsible for carrying out the approved daily menus in consultation with a nutritionist, and preparation of nutritious meals and snacks for a group of children. Other responsibilities include the ordering and purchasing of groceries and cleaning supplies, the day to day cleaning of the eating areas, kitchen, and any other light housekeeping duties as deemed necessary.
Qualifications:
The Cook works under the supervision of the Director and must have current certification in an approved and recognized Food Handler’s Certification course as well as a demonstrated proficiency in the planning and preparation of nutritious meals and snacks. A valid First Aid and Infant CPR certification are required as well as a clear child abuse registry and criminal record check.
Required Attributes and Skills:
· A strong understanding of health and nutrition practices for young children
· A ready ability to warmly relate to the children.
· Ability to work closely and in harmony with supervisors and peers.
· Good physical health.
Specific Duties:
· Planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks according to the approved Menu.
· Purchasing of groceries from planned menus and cleaning supplies within the allocated
budget.
· Washing of all children's dishes and utensils, etc. and maintaining kitchen and eating
areas in a sanitary and orderly condition.
· Communicate with staff concerning the nutritional needs of the children, special
feeding requirements, allergies etc.
· Keeping an inventory of all food and kitchen supplies.
· Answering staff telephone and main telephone fines, and recording messages.
· Any other housekeeping duties as deemed necessary from time to time.
· Ensure requested data and metrics are provided accurately and timely
· Such other related tasks as requested by the company from time to time
