The American is looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager to join our team.
3-5 years of Management Experience - Mandatory
5+ years of Hospitality Experience - is a bonus
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) assists with the daily operations of The American, working with the General Manager and Head of Service to oversee and manage all areas of the bar and assist with decisions on matters of importance. They work closely with all facets of the business, including marketing, bar, kitchen management and general staffing. In addition, they will help the General Manager with scheduling, ongoing repair and maintenance, bar inventory, staff training, reservations oversight and the development and management of employee performance, ensuring that guests' expectations are exceeded.
The AGM would be required to work both administrative days as well as closely work on the floor and service. The expectation is to have a balance of some shifts during the day period, as well as availability to close down the restaurant.
Staffing
Act as a floor manager, providing hands-on leadership and real-time staff support during service
Assist in hiring and training new staff members to ensure they have the tools to give exemplary service as part of a coordinated team and support staff development through coaching, feedback, and reinforcement of service standards
Ensure a healthy and safe work environment for all staff
Support the kitchen whenever possible and foster a healthy and familial working relationship between front and back of house
Collaborate with the management team regarding their day-to-day and conduct a weekly meeting for discussion regarding duties and the coming weeks
Uphold company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including beverage, supply, utility, and labour costs
Bar Management
Responsible for ordering, receiving and storing all bar-related items, including, but not limited to, kegs, bottled products, off-sales products, wine and liquor.
Keep storage of all products in an organized manner
Training of staff for proper procedure on receiving and storing products
Reservations
Responsible for overseeing and managing reservations through Resy
Handle large party bookings and coordinate overviews to be shared with staff
Point of contact for large party bookings and room buyouts

We offer great food pairings with DownLow Burgers, and have a Grab and Go fridge at the front of the restaurant as well.
We try and bring a fun atmosphere with affordable beers and cocktails while making sure that the room is fun, loud and somewhere people want to spend time
