Tasks

• Evaluate daily operations
• Monitor department's performance
• Plan for changes to schedules and policies
• Prepare reports for senior management
• Supervise staff
• Train staff
• Arrange for shipping documentation and the tracking and tracing of goods in transit
• Ensure transport compliance with regulations
• Establish and implement policies and standards for the transportation and storage of goods
• Negotiate for services and preferential rates
• Oversee the scheduling and dispatching of vehicles and goods
• Oversee the setting of transportation service rates and monitor revenue
• Organize and maintain inventory
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
• Stand watch and steer ship or self-propelled vessel under the direction of an officer
• Operate, maintain and repair deck equipment
• Operate and maintain off-loading liquid pumps and valves
• Monitor engine, machinery and equipment indicators
• Lubricate moving parts of engine, machinery and auxiliary equipment
• Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo
• Clean, chip and paint deck surfaces
• Clean engine parts and keep engine room clean
• Assist in the development of operation, maintenance and safety procedures
• Assist in performing routine maintenance work and repair to ship's engine, machinery and auxiliary equipment
• Handle mooring lines, and splice and repair ropes, wire cables and cordage
