Job Description

The Senior Manager, Maintenance is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of maintenance to ensure maximum operational availability, reliability and safety of the equipment and facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in the delivery of safe work practices and ensure the continual identification and management of hazards to reduce accidents and injury, including incident investigation and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop strategic objectives for the Maintenance team that will create value in line with the company’s vision.
  • Provide maximum operational availability, reliability and safety of equipment and facilities within budget and through application of best business practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide leadership and create a rewarding team based culture for the maintenance team, including mentorship and development of staff.
  • Ensure the safest, most economic and efficient maintenance and repair methods and working practices are developed and implemented throughout the engineering function.
  • Investigate and apply new maintenance techniques and processes to enhance equipment and facility performance.
  • Provide technical expertise for equipment and facilities safety and in support of the procurement process for operational and maintenance equipment.


Qualifications, Experience & Technical Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the management of mobile and plant industrial asset maintenance.
  • Comprehensive hands-on experience in managing maintenance areas of a container terminal operation.
  • Extensive experience in Container Handling Equipment maintenance (both mechanical and electrical) and facility maintenance.
  • Previous experience with successfully managing a large, unionized workforce.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern reliability and maintenance best practices of the container terminal business, including IT-based asset management systems.
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to build relationships across all levels and functional areas of the organization, engendering trust and integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships both with and among team members, while motivating, developing and encouraging staff to positively contribute to business goals and objectives.
  • Strong business acumen and bottom-line orientation as it relates to decision making that impacts the organization.
  • Ability to strategically plan, analyze, implement and review a variety of projects and assignments.
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written.
  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
