Position Summary

We are excited to welcome a passionate and experienced Cafe Manager to lead our vibrant Food & Beverage team at Hollyburn Country Club. In this key leadership role, you will oversee the daily operations of our casual Cafe, ensuring an exceptional dining experience for our Members and guests. You will also play an integral role in the successful launch of our brand-new 23,000-square-foot Food & Beverage facility.

Your leadership will inspire excellence, foster team engagement, and uphold the high service and operational standards that define the Hollyburn experience.

Position Responsibilities

Member Engagement – 25%

• Ensure that all Members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to their needs; utilize feedback to improve departmental operations and member satisfaction.
• Embody and promote our values of community, respect, evolve, hospitality, and magic, ensuring every experience reflects our commitment to quality and exceptional service.
• Go above and beyond to demonstrate awareness and understanding of Hollyburn’s aim to deliver exceptional service to its Members.
• Develop and maintain strong, caring relationships with Members, staff, and Management.
• Anticipate, react, and introduce new programs to meet evolving service needs.
• Ensure a high standard of appearance, hospitality, and service from all personnel.
• Supervise front-line service staff to ensure proper service standards are followed and assist with service when needed.
• Encourage, coach, and mentor staff to meet and exceed the Club’s service excellence standards.
• Ensure prompt resolution and follow-up to all service inquiries and concerns.
• Communicate and encourage staff to consistently meet and exceed the Club’s service goals.

Leadership & Staffing – 25%

• Assist with the selection, recruitment, compensation, direction, and discipline of staff in the Food Services Department.
• Use established Club hiring procedures and ensure all new and existing employees complete first-day and formal orientation sessions.
• Qualify and train staff on all aspects of operations, department policies, goals, and objectives.
• Host and attend regular staff meetings; establish lines of communication by walking the floor and engaging with team members.
• Provide ongoing formal and informal feedback, including coaching and annual performance evaluations.
• Monitor staff development, career planning, and growth opportunities.
• Recommend employees for recognition programs and rewards through the Employee Recognition Fund.

Facility Management – 10%

• Ensure great first impressions, cleanliness, and safety of the Cafe areas, including all equipment and fixtures.
• Train staff in the Food Services department in the Club’s emergency procedures.
• Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, preventative maintenance, and other operational standards.
• Oversee daily operations and ensure effective communication across departments.

Budget & Financial Oversight – 10%

• Develop and supervise revenue and cost control systems.
• Monitor the labour and supplies budget; make adjustments to meet financial targets.
• Provide the F&B Director with reports regarding employee hours, schedules, pay rates, and position changes.
• Understand, respond to, and align with departmental budget goals.

Operations – 10%

• Manage and maintain cash floats; communicate needs to the accounting department.
• Support the team in product and menu development.
• Maintain inventory control systems to prevent theft.
• Purchase and maintain staff uniforms and stationary supplies.
• Ensure adherence to all legal requirements related to Food & Beverage service.

Liaison & Communication – 10%
• Maintain open communication between service and kitchen teams to support efficient operations.
• Host daily pre-shift meetings with service personnel to review menu updates, specials, 86’d items, and scheduled events.
• Share essential information with Member Services and/or Plant Engineering to help maintain a safe and secure Club environment.

Skills & Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a management role within a coffee shop, quick-service restaurant (QSR), or fast-casual dining environment.
• Private club experience is considered an asset.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing large teams.
• Working knowledge of current trends in coffee culture, liquor, wine, and beer.
• WSET2 certification or equivalent is an asset.
• Experience in a bakeshop or pastry environment is an asset.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:

• This position operates 100% on-site
• Regular evenings or weekend work may be required during peak periods or special events
• Own transportation is an asset as public transportation is not frequent to/from the Club
• Candidates 19 years or older must agree to complete a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector search (fully reimbursed upon hire).
