POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Senior Manager of Safety, Environment, and Compliance, you lead a dedicated team of EHS Professionals in both US and Canadian regulatory environments, ensuring smooth daily operations and the advancement of policies and procedures across NFI facilities. Reporting to the Group Director, Safety Environment and Compliance, the role involves providing guidance and leadership to foster a safety-conscious culture while aligning our EHS Management system with ISO Standards. Your expertise includes navigating regulatory frameworks on both sides of the border, encompassing organizations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the US and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) in Canada, to uphold standards of safety and compliance.

You will collaborate closely with Functional Managers to develop and implement proactive programs focused on prevention and continuous improvement. You will oversee performance metrics and corrective actions, ensuring regulatory compliance across our business units. Additionally, you play a vital role in integrating global HR strategies with operational objectives to promote constructive collaboration and coherence. As the Senior Manager, you are instrumental in elevating our organization's EHS practices, being responsible for ICFR/ICSR internal controls, and driving initiatives that prioritize both compliance and the well-being of our workforce.

WHY JOIN US:

  • Be a part of a team leading the world’s electrification of mass mobility.
  • Competitive Wages and comprehensive benefit package with Immediate benefit eligibility.
  • Paid holidays and vacation.
  • Registered pension plan with generous company match.
  • Passionate about creating a better product, a better workplace, and a better world.
  • Inclusive workplace culture that values and empowers team members.
  • On-the-job training in a continuous learning environment (we have invested 10.9 million in 2023).
  • Advancement opportunities within our family of companies.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Lead and mentor a team of EHS Professionals across US and Canadian facilities, providing necessary support and direction to address EHS issues effectively. This may come in many forms such as guidance regarding security services, operational support, and system development.
  • Collaborate with other Senior EHS Managers to standardize practices and procedures across business units, fostering consistency and best practices.
  • Identify and resolve management system process issues within the organization, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and propose improvements to policies, programs, and procedures to improve the effectiveness of EHS Operations. Lead the development and implementation of proposals and new program development, ensuring best practice identification and transfer among facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements according to local regulatory frameworks, establishing and enforcing policies and processes accordingly.
  • Liaise with Management Groups at all levels to achieve business objectives through effective environment, health and safety management, with focus on program, policy, and practice adherence. Prepare detailed reports, recommendations, and proposals to drive adherence and compliance efforts.
  • Oversee emergency and hazard response activities, as well as EHS investigations, ensuring thorough reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Support workers' compensation claims management programs, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Advise on production activities and facility initiatives to ensure compliance with EHS regulations, facilitating education, training, and certification programs. This may include monitoring waste management activities, including air emissions, hazardous waste disposal, and water discharge programs, and ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Support the development and maintenance of management system auditing tools, overseeing internal audit programs to address deviations and report performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the EHS Management system based on ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements, supporting ISO registration activities.
  • Assist in operational integration and coordination of Global HR Safety and Environmental Strategy under the guidance of the SEC Group Director.
  • Maintain documentation structure of the EHS Management system, ensuring accessibility, alignment, and control.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Degree or diploma in environmental science, occupational health, engineering, or related fields, as well as equivalent certifications like Certified Safety Professional (CSP/CRSP), hold significant value. We equally acknowledge and consider equivalent qualifications and relevant certifications, fostering inclusivity and welcome all qualified candidates to apply.
  • Extensive experience in EHS management roles, with a proven track record of leadership and program development.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in a manufacturing setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in ISO standards and auditing processes.
  • Proficiency in OSHA regulations and Workers Compensation requirements, spanning both US and Canadian manufacturing landscapes. This necessitates a comprehensive grasp of OSHA standards for workplace safety in the US, complemented by familiarity with Canadian regulations from Health Canada and CCOHS.
  • Proficiency in First Aid, CPR, and AED procedures.
  • Experience in planning, conducting, and tracking EHS Compliance and hazard assessments.
  • Familiarity with Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and GAP Analysis techniques.
  • Capability in planning, creating, and delivering EHS training programs.
  • This role will be required to perform tasks involving walking, bending, climbing, sitting, and standing for extended periods.

Up to 20% of travel is required in this position.
