OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW
You are a representative of The Vancouver Club, and you must present yourself in a professional manner at all times. The sommelier is responsible for all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages served throughout the outlets within The Club. This "hands-on" position will work directly with the A La Carte team, delivering great products and service to the members. The sommelier will be responsible for maintaining a positive work environment within the Club, maintaining and improving the wine list and wines by the glass offerings. The sommelier will work closely with the beverage team to purchase products for the wine lists.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides sommelier service in the restaurant and bars, being a consistent presence and support for all service teams. Focusing on tableside wine sales.
Strongly focused on the development of the all outlets wine program, by collaborating and maintaining a strong relationship with all departments.
Continuing to provide unique, rare, and high quality products to the membership while staying true to the Club’s brand and reputation.
Assists in developing lasting relationships with Member and non-member groups to retain business and increase growth through the beverage program.
Collaborates with the Director of Wine and Beverage to source all alcoholic beverages.
Assists in ensuring the Club carries the appropriate mix of beverages in its inventory, to meet the needs of members and guests, including mix of varieties, pricing, etc.
Collaborates with the Assistant Food and Beverage Managers to create a cocktail focused culture in the outlets.
Knows all current menus and wine lists, collaborating on wine pairings.
Knows all styles of service, and must be able to execute with confidence.
Participates in monthly inventory counts of all beverage inventories.
Lead daily, weekly and monthly training sessions and tastings with a la carte staff.
Applies and continually broadens knowledge of food as well as innovative wine pairings with emphasis on current events and seasonal trends.
Performs all other duties as required.
ENSURING AND PROVIDING EXCEPTIONAL GUEST SERVICE
Provides sommelier support and services in restaurants and bars during dinner and happy hour services.
Sets a positive example for guest relations.
Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels.
Responds to and handles guest problems and complaints.
Empowers employees to provide excellent guest service.
Strives to improve service performance.
Emphasizes guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focuses on continuous improvement.
Reviews guest satisfaction feedback.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Experience & Education
Minimum 3 years food & beverage experience
WSET Level 3, CMS Certification or ISG Diploma
Must have Serving It Right certification or equivalent
Ability to lift/carry 25 kg
Ability to stay on feet for long periods of time
Computer Knowledge (MS Excel, MS Word)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must have a professional appearance and manner, a gracious attitude and the ability to interact with diverse groups, as well as the ability to build strong relationships within the Club and Community
Will be required to maintain a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Annual salary range $70,000+
