Ellipsis – Vancouver
Ellipsis is a café and cocktail bar located in Vancouver’s iconic Waterfall Building.
By day, we focus on thoughtful coffee and café culture. By night, the space transforms into a cocktail-driven bar designed for conversation, connection, and memorable moments.
We are looking for a Bar Manager / Service Lead who understands both modern cocktail culture and the deeper craft of hospitality.
This is not simply a behind-the-bar role. The right person will be equally comfortable leading service on the floor, guiding the bar team, and contributing creatively to the beverage program.
Responsibilities
• Lead daily bar operations and uphold bar standards
• Oversee bar workflow, organization, and service efficiency
• Participate in cocktail menu development and beverage R&D
• Translate creative beverage ideas into consistent, executable service
• Maintain high standards in cocktail preparation, presentation, and service
• Support and mentor bartenders and service team members
• Be present on the floor and actively support service during busy periods
• Act as Manager on Duty (MOD) when the GM is not present
What We’re Looking For
• A strong understanding of modern cocktail techniques and cocktail culture
• A deep understanding of hospitality and guest experience
• Experience operating within a high-standard cocktail bar environment
• Ability to lead both bar operations and service flow
• Confidence working behind the bar & on the floor
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• A calm and solutions-oriented presence during service
• Ability to translate creative beverage ideas into practical operational execution
• Strong leadership and team communication skills
• Comfortable working in a dual-bar concept (coffee & cocktails)
• Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
Requirements
• Minimum 3 years experience in cocktail-focused bar environments
• Experience in a bar leadership or senior bartender role
• Serving experience required and comfort working the floor
• Ability to manage service flow in a dynamic hospitality environment
• Legally eligible to work in Canada
Bonus Skills
• Experience developing seasonal or rotating cocktail menus
• Coffee or barista knowledge
• Experience training or mentoring team members
• Interest in beverage culture, hospitality, and craft
