Position Job Title: Marketing Manager, Social Media
Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid)
Reports To: Associate Director, Digital Marketing
Primary Purpose
University Canada West is looking to hire an experienced Marketing Manager, Social Media, to join our dynamic, award-winning Marketing and Communications team.
Our ideal candidate has experience developing and executing social media strategies and must have experience managing and mentoring people. As a successful hire, you will help grow the brand identity online through content and visuals representative of the University and our programs. The ideal candidate for this position has a positive attitude, a tireless work ethic, impeccable attention to detail, and an appetite for growth.
Specific Responsibilities
- Help develop a social media strategy for the University and manage the execution
- Develop content to increase community engagement online. Maintain online relations with the UCW community
- Provide short- and long-term market forecasts and reports by conducting/directing market research collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data
- Develop new approaches for building brand awareness and community engagement, acquiring and analyzing data, and consulting with internal and external sources
- Complete social media marketing department operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results
- Manage social media marketing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and managing employees
- Maintain social media marketing staff job results by counseling and providing direction to employees and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
- Develop marketing staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities
- Create a brand persona through the brand’s online channels
- Utilize the social channels most relevant to the brand on a daily basis
- Respond to social media queries through networks
- Create successful social media ad campaigns that will generate leads
- Work with relevant influencers or complementary brands to grow the university's social following organically and increase brand awareness
- Work together with graphic designers to create compelling content for publication or campaigns
- Manage social media calendar on a daily basis
- Support social media requests from other departments and stakeholders
- Manage a group of Student Ambassadors. Communicate with current students and alumni to collect testimonials and produce engaging content
- Ensure brand consistency and quality control across all platforms and monitor third-party posts to ensure compliance according to the UCW Brand Guide and Marketing Manual
- Evaluate competitors
- Assist with other day-to-day marketing activities as needed
Position Requirements
Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, and others)
- Coaching and subordinate involvement
- Proficient in marketing research and statistical analysis
- Strong project management, multitasking, and problem-solving ability
- Impeccable attention to detail
- A great sense of aesthetics, a love for great copy, and witty communication. Skilled in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with digital marketing and proven experience in creating a successful social media strategy
- The ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
- Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and social media
Education and Experience:
- A university degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in social media marketing roles
- Proven working experience in social media content creation
- 2 years of proven experience in leadership and managing employees
- Experience working with project management tools such as Asana, Trello
- Experience working with social media management and listening tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite
- Will be required to work occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Adobe Creative Suite skills, an asset
