Pros: Great coworkers, no night shifts.
Cons: Tips are ok but not good when considered in relation to the number of tables you serve in a shift. Tips are pooled and there is no transparency when it comes to it, there are tip tiers and supervisors and managers take a big chunk of it from what I understand. For the amount of work, it's possible to make triple the money in tips elsewhere. Tip machine starts at 15% and at the end of the day it averages at 12-15% a day BEFORE TIPOUT. Owner refuses to change tip suggestion in the machine. I believe training is not well organized and there is a learning curve that seems hostile at times as a newbie. It is one of those places where good work is rewarded with more work. Bad and slow servers rarely get the closing shifts due to being bad at it, meanwhile others get stuck with closing shifts. Seems rewarding to not be good at your job because at the end of the day, you get to do less work for the same amount of money since tips are pooled.

Overall, having great coworkers makes a huge difference. The restaurant closing at 3pm is amazing for work-life balance and it is very helpful if you are in school or serving is not your main source of income. Otherwise, you could possibly do better elsewhere.

For those who are new to the service industry it is a great spot with unbeatable hours. Tip pooling is not great for anyone, but it is decent enough for a brunch spot. I would not say you are fairly compensated here for your work though.

If you're looking for a stable, consistent and rewarding opportunity I don't think you'll find a more restaurant group with more commitment and integrity than OEB. From store management to regionals to ownership I've never worked within a better culture. They ask a lot of their staff but reciprocate more frequently than most restaurants I've ever worked with.
