pooled tips which can be a good or bad thing, but supervisors/managers receive a higher tip out than servers do. Kinda sucks since they aren't the ones actually serving a bunch of tables. It's a super busy place but the hours are good and you still end up making decent tips for a breakfast restaurant.

I personally would not recommend working here. I worked here for a few months in 2021. Things might have changed since but when I worked there it was extremely mismanaged and there was no work life balance (ex. If someone called in sick and they called you they would expect you to come in even though you weren’t scheduled). Most restaurants are mismanaged and don’t offer a great work life balance but usually the tips are good enough to make it worth it. But the way tips and tip out works at OEB WERE COMPLETELY NOT FAIR.

When you get hired they explain that they do tip pooling. I’ve worked at places before that did tip pooling and never had a problem with it. But the way OEB does their tip pooling is completely unfair. What they don’t explain is that the servers get a percentage of sales, opposed to getting your tips and having to tip out a percentage of sales. The tips are not split equally amount severs and the tip out is extremely high. They created a performance based 3 tiered system to determine how much you make in tips. Luckily I was at the highest tier. One day during my 8 hour shift, I kept track and counted all of the tips I made. I had made $423 in tips, but when I received my tips for that day I only walked away with $198. This may still seem like a lot of money, but when you are running around in a busy restaurant and working hard to give customers great service, it’s a slap in the face to only receive half the amount of tips you earned.

I only worked at OEB for 4 months and I truly wouldn’t recommend working there. It is an extremely busy restaurant and management doesn’t value their employees. The employee turn over is the highest I’ve seen in a restaurant.
