Job Description

Janevca is seeking a talented and driven Sous Chef to join our leadership team and help shape the culinary experience at one of British Columbia’s most exciting fine dining restaurants.

Opened in 2024, Janevca has quickly earned recognition in leading culinary publications and notable mentions as a “Best New Restaurant.” Our kitchen is defined by precision, creativity, and a wood-fire-driven approach, where live-fire cooking plays a central role in delivering depth of flavour and an elevated guest experience.

The Opportunity

As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Executive Chef to lead daily kitchen operations, mentor a high-performing team, and ensure exceptional execution during service. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a chef who thrives in a fast-paced, fine dining environment and has a passion for wood-fire and open-flame cooking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Chef in overseeing all kitchen operations
  • Lead service with a focus on consistency, timing, and execution, particularly across wood-fire stations
  • Train, mentor, and develop line cooks and junior team members
  • Maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and cleanliness
  • Assist with menu development, with a focus on wood-fire techniques and seasonal ingredients
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and cost controls
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and workplace safety standards

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5+ years of experience in a leadership role within a fine dining kitchen
  • Strong technical skills, with experience in wood-fire or open-flame cooking highly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team during high-volume service
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Passion for culinary innovation and continuous improvement

Compensation

  • $55,000 – $70,000 annually, based on experience
  • Participation in tip pool
  • Opportunities for growth within a high-profile and evolving restaurant

Start Date: Immediately
