Overview
We are seeking a talented and experienced Child Care Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and kitchen operations, along with a passion for providing nutritious, high-quality meals for young children.
This role offers the opportunity to independently manage the daily operations of our childcare kitchen while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and meal quality. Candidates with restaurant or commercial kitchen experience, excellent time management skills, and a strong work ethic are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks according to approved menus, recipes, and presentation standards.
- Independently manage the daily operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, meal service, dishwashing, and kitchen cleanup.
- Prepare and serve meals for up to 135 children, ranging in age from 10 months to 5 years.
- Ensure all food is prepared and handled in accordance with food safety regulations and safe food handling practices.
- Safely accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special nutritional requirements.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Monitor food inventory, order supplies, and maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
- Work collaboratively with educators and management to support the nutritional needs of the children.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a chef, cook, or in a commercial kitchen is required.
- Restaurant or high-volume food service experience is considered a strong asset.
- Valid Food Safe certification (or willingness to obtain one, if applicable).
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and safe food handling procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
