Job Description

WORTH Association - Women of Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality

Employment Opportunity: Event Manager

Location: Hybrid / Remote

The Event Manager is expected to attend meetings, site visits, and events throughout Metro Vancouver 1–2 times per month, with increased on-site attendance required during peak event planning and execution periods. Occasional out-of-province travel may be necessary throughout the year. The role also requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other non-standard hours in support of events and organizational activities.

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

Annual Salary: $71,000-76,000

About Us:

WORTH is a grassroots non-profit society advancing women in Canada’s recreation, tourism, and hospitality industries. We educate, elevate, and engage through mentorship, networking, and professional development—helping self-identifying women lead, influence, and shape a more equitable future for the sector.

Job Overview:

At WORTH, events are more than gatherings, they are strategic platforms that build community, amplify underrepresented voices, strengthen industry partnerships, and generate meaningful impact for women in hospitality, tourism, and recreation.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Event Manager leads the event team, operational execution, and the overall delivery of WORTH’s event portfolio. This role works closely with the Operations Manager and the Marketing and Partnerships Manager, as well as  internal team members, contractors, and volunteers.

As the Event Manager is expected to both lead strategy and execute key elements directly, this is an ideal opportunity for a highly organized and solutions-oriented event professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and can balance strategic oversight with hands-on operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Event Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Leads the planning and delivery of WORTH’s annual event portfolio, including:

    • WORTH Leadership Summit – Annual one-day conference in Vancouver

    • Yes Shef Event Series – Multi-city event series currently held in Vancouver and Toronto

    • Fundraising Events, Networking Gatherings, Workshops, and Partner Activations

  • Develops event strategies that support organizational goals related to community engagement, sponsorship growth, fundraising, visibility, and participant experience

  • Establishes event objectives, operational priorities, timelines, success metrics, and delivery frameworks

  • Evaluates event outcomes and provides recommendations to improve impact, operational efficiency, audience engagement, and financial performance

Event Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Oversees all phases of event planning and execution from concept through post-event reporting

  • Develops and manages master event timelines, production schedules, operational plans, and critical paths, ensuring all phases of the event are appropriately resourced to deliver project objectives

  • Provides leadership and direction to contracted coordinators, volunteers, vendors, and delivery teams

  • Delegates operational responsibilities and ensures accountability across event delivery teams

  • Leads event planning meetings and cross-functional coordination with Marketing & Partnerships, Operations, and event delivery teams

  • Serves as the primary operational lead and escalation point for complex event matters

Vendor, Venue & Production Management

  • Leads vendor sourcing, RFP processes, bid evaluations, negotiations, and contract coordination

  • Oversees relationships with venues, AV providers, caterers, production suppliers, rental companies, transportation providers, and other service partners

  • Oversees venue logistics including floorplans, catering, load-in/load-out schedules, and onsite operations

  • Ensures appropriate contingency planning, operational risk management, and issue resolution

Sponsorship & Stakeholder Management

  • Oversees fulfillment of sponsorship deliverables in collaboration with the Marketing Manager

  • Ensures sponsor activations, branding, recognition, and partner commitments are delivered successfully

  • Maintains strong relationships with sponsors, partners, venues, vendors, speakers, and participants

Budget & Financial Oversight

  • Develops and manages event budgets in collaboration with leadership

  • Tracks event revenues, expenditures, financial commitments, and budget performance

  • Reviews contracts, invoices, procurement documentation, and reconciliation reports for accuracy and alignment with approved budgets

  • Identifies cost efficiencies and provides recommendations to support financial sustainability

  • Oversees post-event financial reconciliation and reporting

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Leads post-event evaluations, reporting, debriefs, and operational reviews

  • Tracks key event performance metrics including attendance, sponsor engagement, fundraising outcomes, and participant feedback

  • Identifies opportunities to improve systems, workflows, communication, and operational practices

  • Maintains event documentation, planning tools, templates, and organizational records to support continuity and scalability

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means consistently delivering high-quality events that meet or exceed attendance, satisfaction, sponsorship, and revenue goals, while growing participation and community impact. The right person builds strong, lasting relationships with sponsors, partners, and vendors, leads cross-functional teams with clarity and accountability, and fosters a positive team culture that brings out the best in contractors, volunteers, and colleagues alike. They take full ownership of outcomes, proactively identifying challenges and implementing practical solutions. Behind the scenes, they develop scalable systems and documentation that improve efficiency and support continued growth, making decisions grounded in data and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Event Management, Hospitality, Tourism, Business Administration, Marketing, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive event management experience leading conferences, culinary events, trade shows, fundraising events, or large-scale hospitality experiences

  • Proven experience managing vendors, sponsors, stakeholder relationships, and cross-functional teams

  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and make sound decisions under pressure

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and event management tools including TicketTailor, Trellis, Keela, Squarespace, and SurveyMonkey

  • CMP designation or equivalent certification is considered an asset

What We Offer:

  • Vacation: 15 days paid vacation + paid Winter Break (Dec 24–Jan 1)

  • Flexibility: Flexible hours and remote work from home or other approved location

  • Benefits: Extended health coverage

  • Growth: Professional development and conference funding

  • Equipment: Laptop and technology stipend provided

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit their resume to [email protected] detailing their relevant experience and qualifications.

Application Deadline: June 28, 2026
