Wandering Bear- Store Manager
Job Purpose:
As the Store Manager, you will report to the Victoria Area Manager (VAM) and have the exciting opportunity to play a major part in the success of the company bringing your experience, leadership and strong business acumen. You will grow the team, support a strong positive culture, manage inventory and assortment, oversee the day-to-day management duties (including driving sales, ensuring an exceptional guest experience, controlling expenses, improving productivity and delivering profitability. As an ambassador for Wandering Bear, you enhance the brand by supporting community involvement and through compliance with government regulations and policy management. You will also be directly responsible for the selection, supervision, and development of our team; coach and mentor Team Members; and support the education and development of all team members. Our ideal candidate is a people-oriented, growth-minded leader who will communicate goals, processes, and policies and be involved in implementing marketing and promotional activities to continually increase sales, maximize margins, and increase market share for the company to achieve financial objectives.
Position Details: Permanent, full-time. 32-40 hours/week. Hours of work will vary and may be irregular.
Compensation: Salary range of $50,000 - $60,000 per annum.
Key Responsibilities:
· Leads the Wandering Bear Liquor location in partnership with the Victoria Area Manager and other leaders in recruitment, staffing, product decisions, promotional activities, and business operations.
· Inspires and motivates the team to meet performance goals and deliver impeccable & consistent guest service experiences.
· Provides strong people leadership in scheduling practices, communication, coaching, performance management as well as training and development, to create great culture.
· Accomplishes revenue targets by executing action plans, communicating goals and priorities, inspiring the team, following process and best practices.
· Reviews monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports with accompanying analysis of results, in partnership with the AM, identifying opportunities, variances, and initiating corrective actions to deliver profitable results.
· Ensures all cash handling policies, health and safety requirements, building and equipment maintenance standards are in compliance with company and government standards in all aspects of operational and team day to day execution.
· Provides input and recommendations for new products, programs, and services by identifying new opportunities, suggesting pricing, packaging, and/or process changes; surveying consumer needs and trends; and tracking competitors in the marketplace.
· Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new operational and leadership processes and government regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications
· Maintains strong community and business relationships.
· Provides input regarding specific location and operational data related to short term and long-range strategic planning and budget development to achieve overall sales and profitability goals.
· Such other duties as are customarily performed by one holding the position of a GM in businesses that are similar to Cascadia Liquor.
· Such other and unrelated duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Employer.
Education, Skills and Qualifications:
This position requires a solid combination of business management with industry related sales and hospitality knowledge, strong communication, and leadership skills, as well as:
· 3+ years in a hospitality management or retail management role.
o Experience must include direct accountability for achieving and driving sales.
· Experience in successfully leading teams, ability to lead by example and building strong team culture.
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage and motivate people.
· Strong knowledge of and passion for the beverage industry.
· Certification in wine, beer and/or spirits (WSET Level 2 or equivalent) is considered a strong asset.
· The following certifications are considered an asset:
o BC Wine Ambassador Level 1 and 2
o WSET (1,2, or 3)
o Cicerone
o Whiskey and Gin Ambassador
· The ability to lift 25 kg repeatedly and stay physically active throughout the shift as well as work in a cold storage environment.
· Strong skills in MS Office, retail POS systems, and office administration.
· Serving It Right certification (and must be at least 19 years of age).
