The American is looking for cooks to join our newly forming kitchen concept. We are a dynamic, pub, music venue & event space on Main Street at the edge of chinatown.
Our goal is to provide a quality product to the everyday sit down diner as well as servicing the standing & moving folks that come for concerts, events, and regular old good times.
Food concept will consist of American pub fare as well as other handhelds
and bar snacks with a focus on freshness and simplicity.The ideal candidate will be respectful and organized with a positive attitude and willingness to take direction. An attention to detail must also be demonstrated in order to create a consistent product. Ability to communicate effectively within the team is also expected to optimize
workflow.
Duties will consist of but are not limited to:
• proper setup maintaining and break down of stations
• operation of grills, flattops, deep fryers
• assembling various sandwiches, appetizers and other bar snacks
• cutting, slicing, and prepping, using manual & motorized tools
• preparing sauces, spreads, dips & other items from recipes
• some bread baking
• portioning & scaling ingredients
• stock rotation and labeling
• daily cleaning, dishwashing, sanitizing & logging temperatures as per BC Foodsafe guidelines.
We are a growing business with full & part time positions available including line cooks, shift leads, and other growth adjacent opportunities.

The American is a versitile room that has something for everyone! We have a pool table, seven different pinball machines, arcade games, one of only a few analog photobooth's in Vancouver, two large projector screens with sound for big sporting events and even have live music and DJ's!
We offer great food pairings with DownLow Burgers, and have a Grab and Go fridge at the front of the restaurant as well.
We try and bring a fun atmosphere with affordable beers and cocktails while making sure that the room is fun, loud and somewhere people want to spend time
